The Department for Child Protection is seeking an Aboriginal Family Practitioner or a Senior Aboriginal Family Practitioner to join our team at the Kadina Office on a full-time term basis. 

In these roles, you will be responsible for: 

• Responding to notifications of child abuse and outcomes of investigations involving Aboriginal families.
• Arranging referrals for culturally appropriate interventions which strengthen families and the wellbeing of Aboriginal children and young people. 
• Collaborating in child protection assessments involving Aboriginal families.
• Facilitating the implementation of a sustainable integrated model of service delivery for Aboriginal families.
• Developing creative and culturally appropriate methods of engaging with and supporting families with high and complex needs. 
• Providing mentoring, education, consultation and an effective support service to a broad range of stakeholders.
• Contributing to the research, development and implementation of holistic, innovative and culturally based service that provides specialised care.

To be successful in these roles, you will have: 

• Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to collaborate with people from diverse professional backgrounds.
• Sound organisational skills to manage varied workloads, organise and plan work activities and prioritise other responsibilities.
• Knowledge of child development, counselling, crisis intervention and working in a statutory environment or community.
• Experience in problem solving and developing workable solutions.

Essential Qualifications:

A degree level qualification in Social Work which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department for Child Protection (DCP).
