The Department for Child Protection is seeking an Aboriginal Family Practitioner to join the Coober Pedy & APY Lands office in a full-time ongoing role.

As an Aboriginal Family Practitioner, you will be responsible for case management and co-working on child protection assessments involving Aboriginal families. You will develop and support referrals for culturally appropriate interventions that foster strengthening of families and the safety and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and young people.

In this role you will assist in the development and implementation of a holistic culturally based service that provides specialised and innovative services.

About You

We are looking for a confident individual with the ability to provide services that are inclusive of Aboriginal people and community from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as engaging in learning about other cultures to better establish relationships and improve services. You will have knowledge of child development, counselling, crisis intervention, and working in a statutory environment or community.

You will also be able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with people both within government, non-government sector and community to promote positive outcomes for Aboriginal children and families.

Essential qualifications: A degree level qualification in Social Work which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department for Child Protection (DCP).

The Region

Coober Pedy/APY Lands (FIFO)

The Far North office covers a large area, encompassing Coober Pedy, Oodnadatta and the APY lands. It is a diverse office consisting of two Child Protection Teams who work on a FIFO roster of 8 days on, 6 days off. The Far North office has a strong, workplace culture of supporting one another, and maintains good partnerships with other Government and non-Government agencies in town. This collaborative way of working helps the team build strong connections with the community, including the local Aboriginal Communities it serves.
