The Department for Child Protection is seeking a Support Worker to join our team at the Mount Barker office on a full-time term basis.
The role is responsible for:
- Engaging with emotionally distressed or challenging clients over the phone, undertaking relevant research, and delivering appropriate responses.
- Accurately evaluating client needs, referring them to Social Workers or agency staff, collaborating with internal and external teams to resolve issues.
- Providing resources to help children and young people under Guardianship build strong, healthy identities.
- Providing child and family support services whilst assisting in programs that respect and reflect cultural diversity.
- Collaborating with government, non-government, and community organisations to support families, coordinating events for children and young people.
To be successful, you will have:
- Strong Communication with ability to engage with people from various professional backgrounds, working collaboratively to deliver quality services.
- Skills in clarifying complex situations, remaining impartial, and using negotiation, influence, and persuasion to resolve conflicts and find solutions.
- Ability to develop connections with community and support services, and guide clients to appropriate resources.
- Experience in taking initiative, making sound decisions independently, and going above and beyond to achieve goals.
- Understanding of child development, parenting strategies, life skills, household management, and awareness of cultural diversity, substance use, and mental health issues affecting families.
