The Department for Child Protection is seeking a Support Worker for our Country Support Unit, located in the Adelaide CBD office. This role assists Social Workers in delivering efficient client service and requires the ability to build strong working relationships. The purpose of the role is to maintain and enhance positive relationships between children and their families, through a client-focused, hands-on approach.
In this role, you will:
- Organise meetings and travel arrangements conducive to safe, supervised family interactions
- Facilitate suitable events and activities for children and young people to encourage productive relationships
- Promote cooperative behaviour by observing and responding to challenging behaviours, as well as implementing strategies to mediate conflict
- Ensure relevant information is recorded and reported
- Engage in practices that support a culturally competent workplace, to better establish relationships and improve services.
To be successful:
You will demonstrate the ability to maintain strong working relationships with people in government agencies, non-government organisations and the wider community. You possess active listening skills and are able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. In addition to delivering clear communication, a collaborative mindset will set you apart.
You will bring experience in relating positively with vulnerable children and young people to understand current issues and achieve quality outcomes. You are comfortable engaging with children, families and professionals, including situations where people may be distressed or require additional support. You understand the importance of respectful, culturally aware practice and client-focused service delivery.
You will bring knowledge of child development, positive parenting approaches and an understanding of the factors that can impact family relationships. You can assess situations, gather information and take practical steps to resolve issues or refer matters appropriately. You will do this while being able to effectively prioritise hands-on duties with other reporting tasks and responsibilities.
If you're driven by collaboration and providing quality client service, we encourage you to apply.
