Our Aboriginal Policy and Services Directorate (APS) is seeking a Manager, Strategic Practice and Services to support in the development and delivery of culturally safe and responsive practice within the Department for Child Protection (DCP). The role is responsible for implementing strategies and providing recommendations to embed improved care and protection outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander infants, children and young people. Additionally, the role works across a broad range of DCP functions to ensure continuous improvement relating to the support of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce.
In this role, you will:
- Play a key role in embedding the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle and Family Led Decision Making across DCP.
- Represent the APS Directorate and DCP on committees relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander infants, children and young people in care.
- Provide line management and formal supervision of Taikurtirna Warri-apinthi practitioners and other project management staff as required.
- Collaborate with the Aboriginal workforce across DCP to implement support and development opportunities.
- Develop performance systems that enable the identification of professional growth and advancement needs for APS Directorate staff.

- Proven ability to shape strategic thinking and transformation, including the ability to lead a team to develop policy and project solutions.
- Demonstrated resilience and persistence in difficult situations, with the ability to provide influential leadership and advice under pressure.
- Capability to lead proactive transformation of services and practices to align with clear strategic direction.
- High-level knowledge of intergenerational trauma affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the child protection system.
- Superior communication skills and demonstrated ability to forge relationships, develop collaborative partnerships and engage others.
