Our Residential Care Directorate is looking for an Aboriginal Adventure Activity Instructor to join their team on a temporary basis. In this role, you will have the ability to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people. You will achieve this by developing and delivering programs that will support them in connecting to their community, Country, culture and identity.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Facilitate culturally appropriate activities that focus on emotional, physical, cultural and behavioural development.
- Involve young people in decisions which affect them and consider their options when developing events and activities.
- Determine the individual development needs of children and young people to effectively facilitate activities and events in group settings.
- Establish working relationships with relevant cultural leaders, agencies and communities to share resources and coordinate connected services.
- Identify best practices and alternative options based on literature and research whilst providing advice as required.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience in working with vulnerable children and/or young people in a residential or related care setting.
- Expertise in applying culturally responsive child protection practices for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Knowledge of the political, historical and socioeconomic circumstances that have affected Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and evaluate factors that contribute to the risks for children and young people undertaking activities.
- Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of behaviour change models and adventure therapy to deliver a range of program approaches.
